Ladies LeadDespite a poor start Puckering
prevailed in their first full game of the season. Set a modest target of 89, Puckering
reached the total for nine after a final stand of 33 between Tinsley (3) and Burns (26) in
her first game for the club. Burns, apart from an elegant cover drive that sent the heart
soaring, was content to score her runs with nudges and pushes though one wondered if near
the end her partner wouldn't have been happier if she belted a few more and saved him some
running. Elsewhere for Puckering, Walsham chipped in a workmanlike 15 and Bolger 12 before
he was run out.
Young Rachel Travers, though lightly used, was effective in her four overs taking three
for 11. She has a smooth motion and despite the label medium pace seemed quite fast. Both
Croft and Gladstone took two wickets apiece in rather uneven performances. Young Burstow
was noted for his work in the field.
Captain Nigel Morcombe refused to get too excited by the win. "I thought we left
our tail enders too much to do. But give them credit, they scrapped hard for the runs and
a win is a win. I trust our openers will come through for us a little more next
game."
