Around The Village Anyone
for History?
With Nigel Twicks back working with the Gazette we are delighted to
announce a new section in the Paper, 'An Irregular Past,' featuring some of
the lesser known historical events that have taken place in Puckering. These special
pieces will be extracted from Mr. Twicks's upcoming book about the history of the village.
The first in the series will debut in the next issue of the Gazette.
Mavis Chewart Spotted Visiting 'The Grange'
Speculation as to the identity of the new occupants of Upper Puckering's
favourite house, 'The Grange,' reached fever pitch as noted doyen of household chic, Mavis
Chewart, was spotted last Thursday leaving the property. Miss Chewart, whose decorating
tips have reached brilliant heights with imitation Lowestoft wedding cakes and pressed
pansy shoehorns, is rumoured to be directing refurbishment of the house. Whilst the
identity of her clients remains a mystery, we can rest assured that they'll reside in
comfort and never be at a loss for what to do with left-over lolly sticks.
Yoda Foils Armed Robber with Star Trek Phaser
Police praised the courage of shopkeeper 'Yoda' Inglewaite after he
stood up to an armed robber. A man with a cap pulled low over his brow brandished a large
carving knife at Yoda, who runs a Science Fiction and comics specialty shop, and demanded
money. Instead of turning over the cash Yoda brandished the Star Trek phaser that he had
been cleaning at the assailant and, after an uneasy stand-off, the would be robber fled.
Police hope that he will be too embarrassed to ever commit crime again.
