Casting Call for Gnarly Men and MilkmaidsThe
presence of television crews enlivened Puckering this week when Segovia Television's new
breakfast show, 'The Morning Rise,' broadcast a segment from Stoney Grove. Segovia was
highlighting the fact that it will begin filming 'Taxi to Kensington' on that estate later
in the year. Although the author's identity remains unknown, the book was set at a great
house and village in this area. After some preliminary plans to film the village sequences
elsewhere, the production team has agreed to set the story in Upper Puckering.
Mr. Simon Titsley made a brief appearance on the show. Unfortunately, because of a
breaking story in Zimbabwe, his comments were restricted to "we're jolly
excited." Producer Arthur Daily and Director Amy Standish spent the morning at the
site looking at possible location shots. In talking to the Gazette they both mentioned
their concern over the colour of the grass ("not the right historical shade of green
at all") as well as the scarcity of cows on the estate.
The two also expressed an interest in recruiting Puckering's finest to act as extras.
Daily said that before the filming starts they would be holding a casting call and looking
for local talent. "The story is set during the war when the landscape was being
farmed, so we'll be looking for some real gnarly types, toothless old men, that sort of
thing. Of course the odd buxom milk maid might get a look in too."
Whilst the major roles in the film are believed to have been cast, there is no word yet
as to who will be playing the parts of Arthur Kinglsey and Loretta Princeton, the two
lovers at the heart of the story.
