Welcome to the Sea Room. Recently
completed paint analysis has shown that the walls have always been this bright, a color
historically known as Mars Yellow. The freize on the entablature is an alternating
pattern of sea shells and fishes, based loosely on the Roman Temple of Concord. We have
recently learned that Fanny Blake, the wife of the house's creator, was born in the
Caribbean. Perhaps the room was decorated to suit her tastes. In any case, the
remainder of the furniture is a mix of French and English and dates to the Victorian
period. The portrait on the wall next to the pier glass is of Hope Beadle Hall,
grand daughter of the original owners. |
