This room was was originally much larger,
incorporating Basil's bedroom as well. Currently, the research team believes it was
split up in the 1870s during William Hall's rennovation campaign. Ellen Hall, his
daughter, converted the room to her private study in the 1940s, and used it to answer
correspondence. It was here that she wrote her popular book Robins,
Sparrows and Barn Owls, a Guide to West Sussex Walks, published in 1953. |
