The Music Room

music room

This is the Music Room, although as you saw (and heard!)  we put the band in the Saloon.

Musicians needed less equipment when the house was built; not enough room in here for amps and speakers and the like.  Actually, the musicians were the ladies of the house, and I understand that Miss Hope Beadle and Mrs. William Hall were regarded as quite accomplished in their day.

This is the other of two octagonal rooms in the house.  This one has a door opening out into the lawn. If you'd like to step outside after I finish up here, please go ahead.  But shut the door behind you; it's quite nippy out there tonight.

The ceiling has a bunch of  classical and celestial types cavorting around on it. It’s plaster, like all the rest, with fancy painted sections, also by that chap that worked for Biagio.

The floor is black and white marble; would have made more sense to put the kegs in here, easier to clean up, I thought, but Simon was afraid nobody would find them.

Anyway, that’s all that’s open right now; the rest of the place is still a bit of a mess. Flaking plasterwork, cracked walls, bad wiring, rising damp... you know, the usual old house problems.

Oh, one room I didn’t mention; the loo. Actually, there are two downstairs in good working order; one just off the Entrance Hall and the other one right outside the Music Room in the passage back to the Saloon. Have a good time and thanks for coming!
